OROP: SC Directs Centre To Disburse The Pensions

The Supreme Court is hearing a petition filed by an Indian ex-serviceman regarding the One Rank One Pension (OROP) policy.

The Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha on Monday asked the Central Government to comply with its earlier order to disburse the arrears to eligible pensioners of the armed forces by 15th March 2023.

On the question of non-receipt of payment, the Supreme Court said that payment should be made by March 15. OROP is paid to Armed Forces personnel who retire in the same rank with the same length of service, irrespective of their date of retirement.
AG R Venkataramani said that I am personally monitoring the matter and payment will be started soon. There are 25 lakh pensioners. The list has come to the Ministry for final screening and is with the Finance Section of the Ministry of Defence.
