Opposition to Finalize VP Candidate Today, Who Could it Be?

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said Opposition leaders will meet today to decide their Vice President candidate. This comes after NDA nominated Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan, with the election scheduled for September 9.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge confirmed that several opposition leaders are expected to meet on Monday evening to finalize their candidate for the upcoming elections for Vice President, as reported by Hindustan Times. 

This meeting follows the ruling of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) that named Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as its candidate for the post. BJP President stated that the decision was formed after an extensive meeting with NDA leaders.

The opposition wasted no time and confirmed that they, too will announce their candidate for the post. Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi said, “The INDIA alliance leaders have had a few discussions on this matter, and I am expecting that there would be consensus and we would hear the decision made public very soon.”

Who is CP Radhakrishnan?

CP Radhakrishnan has previously served as the governor of Jharkhand. He also held charge of Telangana and served as the lieutenant governor of Puducherry. His name was announced after the Vice President post became vacant following the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankar.

The Vice President elections are set to be held on September 9.
