Prime Minister Narendra Modi has just arrived at the Red Fort to hoist the national flag on the 79th Independence Day, marking his 12th consecutive address to the nation from the historic monument. In addition to marking the 100th anniversary of Operation Sindoor—India’s precision attacks against Pakistani terror infrastructure in the wake of the April 22 Pahalgam attack—this year’s ‘Aazadi Parade’ is particularly meaningful.
According to sources, PM Modi’s address will honor the valor and sacrifices made by the Indian military during Operation Sindoor. It will also highlight India’s international partnerships, global vision, and the vital role that the military plays in protecting the country.
Operation Sindoor: Honouring the Armed Forces
On May 7, India executed Operation Sindoor, targeting terror networks in Pakistan in response to the killing of 26 civilians in Pahalgam. Today, the Red Fort is decked with the operation’s theme as a tribute to the armed forces’ success. The monument features large Operation Sindoor emblems, and the Chenab Railway Bridge, which represents the pride and excellence of the nation’s engineering, is included on invitation cards for the Independence Day celebration.
During the flag-hoisting ceremony, Air Force helicopters will fly over the Red Fort bearing the Operation Sindoor emblem, accompanied by a 21-gun salute using indigenous 105 mm artillery guns. These symbolic actions honor the armed troops on this important day and highlight India’s military might.

Independence Day Agenda and National Priorities
PM Modi’s address is expected to set the national agenda for the year ahead. While the government may propose measures to boost domestic defense manufacture and lessen dependency on imports, social welfare programs are expected to receive increased attention and money.
In accordance with the Naya Bharat theme, the Independence Day address will also highlight India’s growing importance in international affairs and lay out the plan to achieve Viksit Bharat by 2047. Border tension and the nation’s stand will also be a major part of the PM’s speech.
Across the country, the tricolour is on full display, adorning streets, markets, offices, and homes. This year’s festivities, which mix the spirit of Independence Day with the centennial milestone of Operation Sindoor, enhance India’s pride in its military and sense of national unity.
