One Accused Held For Killing Delhi Cop in Road Rage

In a tragic road rage incident in Delhi’s Nangloi area on September 29, 2024, a 30-year-old Delhi Police constable named Sandeep lost his life after being dragged by a speeding car for nearly 10 meters. The incident occurred during the early morning hours while Sandeep was on patrol duty in civilian clothes to monitor burglary activities in the area. He noticed a car driving recklessly and signalled the driver to slow down. However, instead of complying, the driver struck Sandeep’s motorcycle from behind and dragged him along the road before he collided with another vehicle. This horrific incident led to Sandeep’s death from severe head injuries.

The police arrested one of the accused, Rajnish alias Sittu, from Noida. He was in the car at the time of the incident but was not the driver. The actual driver, who is believed to have committed the crime, remains at large, and efforts are ongoing to track him down. Multiple raids have been conducted in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana to locate the fugitive.

The Delhi Police have seized the car involved in the crime, and CCTV footage from the area has provided crucial evidence for the ongoing investigation. The video captured the moments leading up to the incident, helping authorities establish the sequence of events.

The death of Constable Sandeep has not only shocked his colleagues but also the entire community. A Guard of Honour ceremony was held in his village, Madina, in Haryana’s Sonipat district, where the Delhi Police paid tribute to his unwavering dedication to duty. Sandeep is survived by his wife, mother, and a five-year-old son.

Meanwhile, the case took a new turn when the habeas corpus petition was filed in the Delhi High Court. The petition claims that the wife of one of the accused had been detained illegally by the police, adding another layer of complexity to the investigation. The legality of this detention will be examined in a court hearing scheduled for October 1.
This tragic incident highlights the growing menace of road rage and reckless driving in the city. As Delhi Police continue their search for the main accused, the incident has sparked widespread calls for stricter road safety regulations and more responsible driving in the national capital.
