Officer Sings Bollywood Song on his Farewell, Suspended

Tehsildar Prashant Thorat faced suspension after a video of him singing 'Yara Teri Yari Ko' in his official chair at a farewell went viral, with authorities citing rule violations and damage to administrative dignity.

A tehsildar from Maharashtra, Prashant Thorat, has been suspended for a viral video where he is seen singing a Bollywood song. The officer reportedly sang the iconic song 'Yara Teri Yaari Ko' from the Amitabh Bachchan film 'Yaarana'. 

The clip showcases Thorat sitting in his official chair and a board with 'taluka magistrate' written behind him, singing the Bollywood song at his farewell. While colleagues clapped along, the incident was labelled inappropriate and disrespectful to the official chair.

Tharot was transferred from Umri in Nanded district to Renapur in neighboring Latur on July 30. He joined the new location the same day, as both the places fall under he same division. His farewell party was organized on August 8, where the incident took place and went viral on social media. 

The video quickly gained the attention of social media users and sparked backlash online. Several users said that singing Bollywood or entertainment songs on the 'official chair' is inappropriate and 'disrespectful to the chair.

The controversy prompted the Nandan collector to submit a report to higher officials, which mentioned that Tharot's behaviour had 'tarnished the image of the administration' and was in violation of the Maharashtra Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1979.

After the report was submitted, the Divisional Commissioner of Revenue Jitendra Paalkar ordered Tharot's suspension.
