Suspended JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna has been placed in judicial custody for 14 days by a Karnataka court in connection with a sexual assault and rape case, according to news agency ANI.
The 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) special court for representatives issued the order on June 18.
Earlier, the court had remanded the former MP to the custody of the special investigation team (SIT) until June 18. Initially, on June 10, he had been sent to 14 days of judicial custody, but today the SIT requested a body warrant against him related to a cybercrime case.
Prajwal Revanna, aged 33 and the grandson of JD(S) leader and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, recently lost his bid to retain the Hassan parliamentary constituency in the elections.
Upon returning from Germany on May 31, where he had been since April 27, the SIT officials arrested him at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport. Earlier, following a request from the SIT via the Central Bureau of Investigation, Interpol had issued a ‘Blue Corner Notice’ seeking information on his whereabouts.
Revanna was arrested on April 28 in a case registered against him in Holenarasipura, Hassan district, where he was accused of sexually harassing a 47-year-old former maid. He is identified as accused number two in the case, while his father and MLA, H D Revanna, is the primary accused.
Prajwal Revanna faces charges in three cases of sexual assault, including allegations of rape. The incidents came to light when pen-drives containing explicit videos allegedly involving him were reportedly circulated in Hassan prior to the Lok Sabha polls on April 26.
