Nominations submitted for UP Legislative Council

Nominations for all the 13 seats of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council, with 10 from the BJP and 3 from the Samajwadi Party, have been submitted.
On Monday, 13 candidates filed nominations for the 13 seats. Firstly, 10 candidates from the NDA submitted their papers in the presence of CM Yogi Adityanath. Among them, seven are from the BJP and three are from allied parties (SP, SBSP, and Apna Dal). After them, three candidates from the SP filed nominations. The scrutiny of the papers will take place on Tuesday, and names can be withdrawn until Thursday. After that, the results will also be announced.

NDA :Vijay Bahadur Pathak, Dr. Mahendra Singh Singh, Ashok Katariya, Mohit Beniwal, Santosh Singh, Dharmendra Singh, and Ramtirth Singhal (all BJP), Ashish Patel (Apna Dal-S), Yogesh Chaudhary (RLD), and Bichchhelaal Rajbhar (SBSP)
SP: Balram Yadav, Kiran Pal, and Guddu Jamali.
All are chosen unopposed.

According to the numerical strength, 10 MLCs can be elected from the NDA, while three can be elected from the SP. Due to this reason, all have been elected unopposed. To elect one member in the Legislative Council, 29 votes will be required.
Therefore, SP will need 87 votes for their three candidates.
NDA will need 290 votes to win their 10 candidates. After RLD joined NDA, the number of legislators became 286.

There are expectations of two legislators from Raja Bhaiya’s party also voting in favour of NDA candidates. In this case, the number of legislators becomes 288, but seven SP legislators had indulged in cross-voting during the Rajya Sabha elections. Therefore, there won’t be any difficulty for the NDA to win their candidates.
