Several days after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) submitted its report on the death of 27-year-old software engineer Yuvraj Mehta, his father continues to await justice, alleging that the Uttar Pradesh government has failed to act despite serious shortcomings identified in the probe. Speaking to The Daily Guardian, Yuvraj’s father said no one from the SIT has approached him, even though the team has completed its investigation and reportedly submitted its findings. He claimed the report names senior officials for lapses that led to Yuvraj’s tragic death.
Family members, neighbours and local residents have alleged that Yuvraj’s death was the result of grave negligence by the Knowledge Park police station, coupled with failures on the part of the Noida Authority and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). According to them, lapses in rescue operations and a delayed emergency response played a crucial role in the tragedy.
Sources said the SIT submitted an extensive report of nearly 500 pages last week, documenting several procedural and administrative failures in the handling of the case. The report reportedly highlights deficiencies in rescue preparedness, response time and road engineering, and recommends disciplinary action against those found responsible.
The investigation, sources added, names 12 officials and employees from the police, district administration and the Noida Authority. It also draws attention to flaws in the Noida Authority’s planning process—from initial design to execution—and points out serious shortcomings in road engineering, waterlogging control and drainage infrastructure in the area.
Despite these findings, the state government has yet to take a decision based on the SIT’s recommendations, raising questions over delays in delivering justice in the death of the young software professional.
In a related development, a local court last week granted bail to two employees of a real estate firm in connection with the case. The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Surajpur, on January 31, 2026, granted bail to Ravi Bansal and Sachin Karanwal, employees of Lotus Greens Construction Private Limited, who were arrested in connection with the drowning incident. Counsel for the accused, Advocate Manoj Bhati, said the court allowed the bail pleas as the offences invoked were bailable. Both accused were released on personal bonds of Rs 25,000 each, with conditions including full cooperation with the investigation and restrictions on overseas travel without prior court approval.
The case relates to the death of Yuvraj Mehta, who drowned after his vehicle plunged into a waterlogged pit near a construction site in Sector 150, Noida, on the intervening night of January 16 and 17. The incident triggered widespread public anger, local protests and allegations of negligence against real estate developers and the Noida Authority.
