No signature needed: AAP defends Raghav Chadha amid forgery accusation

The BJP has accused Raghav Chadha of fraudulent actions related to the Delhi Services Bill motion. Union Home Minister Amit Shah claimed that Chadha forged the signatures of five MPs to push the bill towards a select committee. In response, the AAP party refuted that there is no need for a signature while proposing a select committee according to rules.
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh on Tuesday dismissed accusations of a “forged signature” in a motion presented by fellow AAP leader Raghav Chadha in the Rajya Sabha. The motion suggested the formation of a Select Committee within the House to scrutinize the Delhi Services Bill. A party official stated, “Since no signature is required, there is no basis for alleging a ‘forged signature’.” The AAP sources asserted that the names of the five MPs were provided in good faith, considering their active involvement in discussions on the bill within and outside the parliament.
Rules state that only the presumption of consent or inclination of a member is required to be part of the select committee, sources said.
The five MPs—S Phangnon Konyak, Narhari Amin, and Sudhanshu Trivedi of the BJP, M Thambidurai from AIADMK, and BJD’s Sasmit Patra—have individually issued notices of breach of privilege against Raghav Chadha.
Raghav Chadha responded, saying, “I am open to responding if a privilege committee sends me a notice.”
The Parliament successfully passed the Delhi Services Bill on Monday evening, which grants the Lieutenant Governor control over bureaucrats in the Aam Aadmi Party government.
