The MGNREGA is known as (Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Act). The program was introduced more than 15 years ago. It allows citizens to enroll for work such as building roads, rural infrastructure, and digging well and receive at least 100 days’ wage for 100 days each year.

However, the government requested an extra 164 billion rupees ($1.99 billion) for the program above the 730 billion rupees authorized for the current fiscal year that ends on March 31.
