The Nikki Bhati dowry death case has exposed years of cruelty, dowry pressure, and violence in Greater Noida. Police said 28-year-old Nikki Bhati was set ablaze by her husband, Vipin Bhati, on August 21 after an argument over her social media reels and her wish to reopen a beauty parlour. Four family members are now under arrest while disturbing visuals of the murder have surfaced online, sparking massive outrage and the “Justice for Nikki” campaign.
1. Years of Abuse
Nikki and her sister Kanchan married into the Bhati family of Sirsa in 2016. Reports revealed they suffered relentless abuse. Nikki went through constant beatings, dowry harassment, and humiliation. Even after her family gave a Scorpio SUV, a Royal Enfield, cash, and gold as dowry, the torture only grew worse, and the family later demanded an additional ₹36 lakh.

2. The Final Trigger
On August 21, Nikki told her husband that she wanted to reopen her beauty parlour with her sister. Police said she also wanted to stay active on Instagram. Vipin opposed both ideas and declared that women in their family could not post reels or run businesses and their argument quickly turned violent.
3. Vipin Sets Nikki Ablaze
When Nikki insisted on her plans, Vipin snapped while police revealed he poured flammable liquid on her and set her ablaze inside their home. Nikki succumbed to her injury’s hours later at a Delhi hospital.
4. Triggering Visuals Surface
Videos of the incident circulated widely on social media whereas clips showed Vipin pouring liquid on Nikki as she sat helplessly. Another clip captured him assaulting her. A third video showed Nikki engulfed in flames while rushing down a staircase. Reports said her sister Kanchan recorded the footage to document years of abuse.
5. Vipin Shows No Remorse
Police arrested Vipin after a brief encounter. During questioning, he dismissed the crime by saying, “Husband and wife fights are normal.” Investigators said he fled to his relatives immediately after burning Nikki.

6. Disturbing Social Media Posts
Vipin’s social media posts went viral after the murder and in one post with Nikki’s photo, he wrote “nothing left.” In another, he admitted that “people are calling him a murderer.”

7. Sisters’ Online Presence
Nikki and Kanchan actively ran their beauty parlour brand, “Makeover by Kanchan,” on Instagram and YouTube. Their joint account had 54,500 followers while Kanchan had 22,000 followers on her personal account, while Nikki had 1,147 on her private account. Together, their content drew more than 2.9 million views.
8. Family Kept Silent for Years
Nikki’s brother Vicky revealed that the family remained quiet to avoid social shame and he said they endured humiliation silently but now demand strict action against all members of the Bhati family.
9. Outrage Across India
Public anger surged online and offline after the case details emerged also Kanchan launched the “Justice for Nikki” campaign, exposing the reality behind the sisters’ lives in the joint family.
10. Cases Filed and Arrests Made
Police booked four people under Section 103 (murder), Section 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and Section 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Those arrested are Vipin Bhati, his father Satyaveer, his mother Daya, and his brother Rohit.
