On the night of Sunday, September 7, 2025, people will see a beautiful Blood Moon in the sky. This will be a total lunar eclipse that will last for about 82 minutes, as it is one of the longest eclipses in the last 10 years. During this time, the Moon will look deep red as Earth’s shadow covers it.
Next Total Lunar Eclipse
This will be the last lunar eclipse of 2025. The next one will take place on March 3, 2026. That is why this year’s eclipse is very special for sky lovers.
Why Will It Last So Long?
This eclipse is long because the Moon will be at its farthest point from Earth (apogee). At this point, the Moon moves more slowly. It will also pass through the center of Earth’s shadow (umbra). These two things together will make the eclipse last longer than usual.
A Special Moment for Skywatchers
With more than 80 minutes of total eclipse, people will have plenty of time to enjoy the view. The Moon will shine in red and copper colors, making it a perfect chance for stargazers and photographers to capture the rare event.
Blood Moon Timings in India
Dr. Suvendu Patnaik, a space scientist, explained the timings of the eclipse. He told ANI, “It will start around 9.37 pm… Around 11 pm, the shadow will totally cover the moon’s surface, and the moon will turn completely red… It will remain so till 12.22 pm…”

So, people in India will be able to watch the Blood Moon for almost three hours, if the skies are clear.
What Is a Blood Moon?
A total lunar eclipse happens when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon. The Earth’s shadow falls on the Moon and blocks sunlight. Some sunlight bends through Earth’s atmosphere. Since blue light scatters, only red light passes through, which makes the Moon look red. This is why it is called the Blood Moon.
Best Places to Watch in India
The Blood Moon will be visible across the country, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. People do not need special glasses or equipment. It is safe to watch with the naked eye, as long as there are no clouds.
A Rare Night in the Sky
The Blood Moon of 2025 will be one of the most exciting sky events of the decade. Its long duration, beautiful red glow, and wide visibility make it a night that no one should miss.
