‘New Laws prioritise justice to victims over punishment’: Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while inaugurating the 58th DGP-IGP conference at the Rajasthan International Center in Jhalana, declared the nation’s entry into the Amrit Kaal.

Highlighting two pivotal advancements, he emphasized the formulation of an education policy and the replacement of three colonial-era criminal laws. Explaining the legal transformation, he underscored the new laws’ orientation toward delivering justice to the victim rather than solely focusing on punishment.

Home Minister Shah highlighted the significance of the DGP-IGP conference, noting its hybrid nature with the physical presence of the country’s DGP and central police organization heads. He underscored that thorough implementation of the new law would propel our criminal justice system to become the most modern and scientific.

Shah urged all attending Directors General of Police to conduct comprehensive training across all police levels to ensure the effective application of the new laws. He advocated for training programs at both the police headquarters and station officer levels. Shah emphasized the importance of police modernization and stressed integrating the police system with databases and adopting AI-driven analytical approaches to address emerging challenges.

Pointing to the overall improvement in the security scenario in the country after 2014, Home Minister Shah said that currently there are three important hot spots, in Jammu and Kashmir, North-East and the aim is to reduce leftist extremism. He said that in the last few years this conference has provided important facilities in formulating new security strategies. He also stressed on the uniformity of structure, size and skills of the counter-terrorism machinery in the country. Shah also highlighted the role of internal security in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a developed nation by 2047.

There will be special discussion in the conference regarding security on tea matches with Pakistan.In this three-day conference, security arrangements in the border districts adjoining Pakistan will also be specifically discussed and discussed on Saturday and Sunday. Several important security issues including cyber threat in border areas, radicalization, fraud in identity documents and threats arising from AI will also be discussed.
