NEET-UG 2024 : SC Confirms No Systemic Breach, Leak Limited to Patna and Hazaribagh

The Supreme Court announced that there was no systemic failure in the administration of the NEET-UG 2024 examination on August 2. The court confirmed that the leak of the exam papers was confined to Patna and Hazaribagh only.

Chief Justice of India Chandrachud stated, “We have come to the conclusion that there was no systemic breach of the papers; the leak was only limited to Patna and Hazaribagh.”

The Supreme Court has established several guidelines to address paper leaks. Following the incidents in Hazaribagh and Patna, a committee was formed to implement these guidelines. Advocate Shwetank Sailakwal explained that the committee is tasked with overseeing paper transport, installing CCTV cameras, and preventing impersonation. The committee has been instructed to report back to the Supreme Court, with an extended deadline for the report submission.

Regarding the request for a re-test, the Supreme Court decided against it, citing no widespread breach of the exam’s integrity. The court criticized the National Testing Agency (NTA) for its inconsistent handling of the situation. The bench, including Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala, and Manoj Misra, had previously rejected the plea for a re-examination on July 23 and indicated that detailed reasons for their decision would be provided later.
