New Delhi: Over 11.21 lakh candidates have cleared the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination as the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Thursday declared the results of the medical entrance test. Of about 20 lakhs students who appeared for the June 21 re-examination, female candidates outperformed male, both in overall pass percentage as well as success rate.
More than 58 percent of all qualified candidates are female. While female success rate stood at 56.8 percent, that for male was lower at 55.1 percent. Punjab’s Aryan Gupta and Haryana’s Panshul Bansal emerged as the joint toppers of the retest by scoring 715 out of 720.
Qualified candidates have emerged from every one of the 36 states and UTs, ranging from over 1.7 lakhs in Uttar Pradesh to 43 in Lakshadweep. The 138 top rankers come from 66 cities across the country.
According to NTA, 19 candidates scored above 700 out of 720, while more than 1400 candidates scored 650 and above.
Earlier in the day, the testing agency had released the final answer key of the retest before declaring results. Scanned OMR answer sheets and recorded responses were shared with candidates between July 13 to July 15.
The original examination which was held on May 3 were later cancelled over allegations of paper leak, causing distress and outrage among lakhs of students. At least 13 students, reportedly, ended their lives in run up to the restest.
