NCPCR Rescues 39 Child Workers From Liquor Factory, But They Vanish

Dozens of children rescued from a distillery in Madhya Pradesh’s Raisen district have gone missing, confirmed by Priyank Kanoongo, the chief of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).

Kanoongo received reports of children working at the Som factory in Sehatganj and led a raid to rescue them. However, he later stated that the children disappeared before necessary legal procedures could be completed.

Rescued children are typically brought before the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) for statements, followed by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for rehabilitation orders. However, due to delays in convening the CWC, legal actions and compensations for the children have been hindered.

Kanoongo highlighted logistical delays that allowed the children to vanish, raising concerns about their safety and legal process adherence. Additionally, a labor inspector was suspended for negligence in enforcing child labor laws.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed seriousness over the issue, promising strict action against those responsible.
