The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has released special modules on Operation Sindoor for students from classes 3 to 12. The modules aim to teach students about India’s military response to the Pahalgam terror attack and the bravery of the armed forces.

As per a PTI report, the module describes Operation Sindoor as “not just a military operation but a promise to protect peace and honour the lives lost.”

Pakistan’s Alleged Role in Pahalgam Attack

The NCERT modules also discuss Pakistan’s alleged involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack. “Pakistan denied any involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack, but it was directly ordered by its military and political leadership,” the module states.

Two versions of the Operation Sindoor module will be available. For students in classes 3 to 8, the module is titled “Operation Sindoor—A Saga of Valour”. For classes 9 to 12, it is called “Operation Sindoor—A Mission of Honour and Bravery”.

These modules will be provided as supplementary readings, not part of the main curriculum. Last week, NCERT also released a special module on ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day,’ titled “The Culprits of Partition”, which sparked political debate.

About Operation Sindoor

Operation Sindoor was launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. A group of terrorists opened fire on tourists in Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam, killing 25 Indians and one Nepali tourist.

Following this, the Indian armed forces carried out targeted strikes on terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in May. This led to a military standoff between India and Pakistan, which brought the two nations close to a fifth war.

After four days of hostilities, India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire understanding.

Learning Through Supplementary Modules

These modules by NCERT aim to educate students about the bravery of the Indian armed forces. The impact of terrorism and the importance of national security are also a part of this module. These modules also provide context on challenges on the geopolitical level, and help students to understand the defense strategies of the nation.

By making these modules part of classroom discussion, NCERT hopes to encourage young learners to value courage, peace, and the sacrifices of armed forces personnel.

NCERT Repeats Key Topics Across Grades

Over the past ten years, NCERT has added some important topics more often in its textbooks to help students understand their historical, social, and political importance. For example, Operation Sindoor appears in several modules, showing its role as India’s military response to the Pahalgam terror attack.

Similarly, the Partition and related events are mentioned at least three to four times across different chapters, sections, and extra readings in history books for various classes. NCERT repeats these key events to make sure students remember and understand them better.
