Nagrota By-Election Result out: Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Devyani Rana won with 42,350 votes (57.36%), defeating Jammu & Kashmir National Panthers Party candidate Harsh Dev Singh, who received 17,703 votes (23.98%). Devyani Rana won the Nagrota bypoll by a margin of 24,647 votes. 

A total of 10 candidates has contested to become the next Nagrota MLA. The by-election was necessitated following the death of former MLA Devender Singh Rana.

Nagrota Assembly constituency is one of the 90 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, located in the northern Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The constituency also falls under the Jammu Lok Sabha parliamentary constituency.

The by-election for the Nagrota Assembly seat was scheduled for 11 November 2025 (polling) with counting on 14 November 2025. 

Nagrota By-Election Result 2025 Winner

Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Devyani Rana won with 42,350 votes (57.36%), defeating Jammu & Kashmir National Panthers Party candidate Harsh Dev Singh, who received 17,703 votes (23.98%). Devyani Rana won the Nagrota bypoll by a margin of 24,647 votes. Counting concluded on November 14, 2025.

In the 2025 Nagrota by-election for the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, the main contenders include Devyani Rana from the BJP, Shamim Begum representing the JKNC, Joginder Singh from the AAP, and Harsh Dev Singh contesting on a JKNPP ticket, while NOTA is also an option for voters. The vote share and margin details will be updated once the official results are declared.

According to the Election Commission data, Nagrota recorded 75.08 per cent polling on November 11 2025.

Why Is Nagrota Famous?

Nagrota is famous for being the first stop on the pilgrimage to the Vaishno Devi shrine, specifically due to the Kol-Kandoli Temple. It is also strategically important as the headquarters of the Indian Army and as an industrial hub with oil depots.

Nagrota Election Winner 2024

In the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly election for the Nagrota constituency, Devender Singh Rana of the BJP secured a strong victory by receiving 48,113 votes, which accounted for 64.94% of the total vote share, reflecting an increase of 32.59% from the previous election.

Nagrota: Why This By-Election?

The by-election for Nagrota occurred because MLA Devender Singh Rana who was the younger brother of Union minister Jitendra Singh. Rana died after a brief illness at Mata Amritanandamayi Hospital in Faridabad, on 31 October 2024.

Nagrota : Sitting MLA Before the By-Election

In the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly election, Devender Singh Rana of BJP defeated Joginder Singh of INC by a margin of 30,472 votes which was 41.13% of the total votes polled. Devender Singh Rana became MLA.
