Nagaland Governor La Ganesan Passes Away at 80 as PM Modi, MK Stalin and Leaders Pay Tribute

Nagaland Governor La Ganesan has died, it is said. According to a PTI report, a Raj Bhavan staffer said that the incumbent governor passed away during treatment at a Chennai hospital.

Hospitalisation and Health Condition

According to reports, Ganesan was being treated at the ICU of a private hospital in Chennai for the last few days. The Kohima Raj Bhavan PRO further said that the governor passed away on Friday night.

On August 8, Ganesan fell at his residence in Chennai and had a head injury. Following this, he was immediately rushed to the hospital, where the doctors admitted him to the ICU to be subjected to rigorous monitoring and treatment.

Prime Minister Modi Pays Tribute

Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned to X to share his condolences upon the passing of governor La Ganesan.

“Pained by the passing of Nagaland Governor Thiru La. Ganesan Ji. He will be remembered as a devout nationalist, who dedicated his life to service and nation-building. He worked hard to expand the BJP across Tamil Nadu. He was deeply passionate about Tamil culture too. My thoughts are with his family and admirers,” wrote the prime minister.

Condolences from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin also tweeted his condolences to the late governor on social media platform X. The DMK leader also offered his respects to Ganesan in his residence in Chennai.

“Mr. Ila Ganesan was a distinguished figure who efficiently held various responsibilities, including State President of the BJP, National Vice-President of the BJP, Member of the Rajya Sabha, and Governor of Manipur and Nagaland. He was a person with a long public life, dedicating himself entirely to public service, even choosing not to marry for the sake of his political career. He protested against the declaration of the Emergency and wrote songs to express his dissent,” wrote Stalin.

Tribute from Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister

Nagaland deputy chief minister Yanthungo Patton took to X, conveying his sympathies and offering tribute to the late governor.

“Deeply shocked and saddened by the passing of Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland, Shri La. Ganesan Ji. Throughout his journey in public life, he carried himself with dignity, humility, and an unshakeable commitment to the welfare of the people,” he wrote.
