BJP president JP Nadda has sent a five-member team of Scheduled Caste MPs to study the nature of the post-poll violence in West Bengal. The committee, headed by MP Vinod Sonkar, is on a two-day visit to the State. The committee will visit the violence-affected areas of West Bengal and then submit its report to the party president.
“Violence is nothing new in Bengal. Be it Lok Sabha, Assembly or Panchayat elections, violence is routinely seen. That is why our party president JP Nadda has sent us to probe the instances on the ground and send him a report,” Sonkar said in Kolkata on Sunday. “It is unfortunate that out of the total 57 deaths in West Bengal, 28 were from the Scheduled Castes,” he added. “Out of the total 10 BJP karyakartas killed in the election violence, eight were from the Scheduled Castes.”
“It is very clear that the Scheduled Castes of the State are with the BJP and the ruling party here cannot digest the fact that it is losing the support of the Scheduled Castes in the State. It is clear that the killings are happening either with the support or due to the inefficiency of the State Government,” he added.
The other members of the team are Suresh Kashyap, Vinod Chawda, S. Munnuswamy and Manoj Rajoria.
Sonkar asked Mamata Banerjee to explain how she could claim to fight the CPIM and the Congress in West Bengal but ally with them in Delhi.
The visit of the SC MP team comes close on the heels of the visit of the five-member BJP Central team of women MPs sent to probe West Bengal’s panchayat poll violence.
“Received the report by the BJP Fact Finding Team, constituted to inquire about the violence and atrocities inflicted upon women during the Panchayat Election in West Bengal,” Nadda wrote in a tweet along with a video wherein the convenor of the panel, MP Saroj Pandey along with the members can be seen handing over the report to him.
