Mumbai experienced heavy rain on Monday, resulting in extensive waterlogging in various areas of the city and disrupting traffic and commuter life massively. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a

alert for Mumbai and neighboring regions, indicating prospects of sustained showers for the next 48 hours.

Localities such as Marine Drive, Vile Parle, Andheri, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus had high water levels. Consequently, traffic movement and pedestrian movement were both affected. Passengers were seen wading through knee-high water in the early morning peak hour, as images from all over the city conveyed extensive flooding.

Forecast Indicates More Rain Ahead

As per the IMD, Mumbai can expect moderate rainfall and cloudy weather for the whole day. Although individual areas like Borivali, South Mumbai, Andheri, and Kurla have not been specifically identified for alerts, nearby areas like Thane come under the present yellow warning.

"Conditions might be marginally cooler, but humidity would remain," said an IMD official. "Tuesday would probably experience more moderate rain under broadly overcast skies."

Delhi and Uttarakhand Also Prepare for Rain

Elsewhere, Delhi started the week under cloudy conditions, and IMD predicts rain later in the day, news agency PTI reported. The city dipped to a minimum temperature of 27.2°C with 83% humidity at 8:30 am. Meanwhile, the Air Quality Index (AQI) was 77, in the "satisfactory" category.

The IMD has gone for an orange alert for heavy rainfall in six districts of Uttarakhand — Dehradun, Nainital, Pauri, Tehri, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar. The authorities have also issued a warning of gusty winds and lightning in some areas.

As a precautionary measure, the Dehradun district administration declared closure of schools and Anganwadi centers for classes 1 to 12 on Monday.
