Two people have lost their lives in Mumbai to a landslide caused by the heavy rainfall in the city. The incident took place in the Jankalyan Society when the family of four was spending time in their home.
Two People Dead due to Landslide in Mumbai
The two people dead as a result of the landslide are identified as Shalu Mishra and Sureshchandra Mishra. The other two people present in the house were Aarti Mishra and Rituraj Mishra, who are currently admitted to the Rajwadi Hospital.
Officials have said that the areas have been cleared up and nearby houses have been evacuated to ensure public safety.
Mumbai Police Issues Public Advisory
In response to the heavy rainfall and subsequent incidents caused by it, the Mumbai police issued a public safety advisory on their X (Formerly Twitter) account. Authorities have advised locals to avoid unnecessary travel and take precautions at all times.
“Mumbai is experiencing heavy rainfall with an Orange Alert in effect. Water-logging and reduced visibility have been reported in several areas.Mumbaikars are advised to avoid non-essential travel and to exercise caution while venturing out,” shared Mumbai Police in their post.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also said that its ground team is putting all their efforts into dealing with the reported emergencies and ensuring that Mumbaikars can travel safely.
“The concerned officers and employees, engineers, pump operators, and emergency teams are alert to deal with the emergency situation. Special attention is being given to important services like rainwater drainage systems, sewage systems, and pumping stations, so that there is no hindrance in the drainage of rainwater. Necessary steps are being taken immediately for this,” said BMC.

Mumbai Rains Cause City-wide Orange Alert
Mumbai is known for experiencing heavy rainfall, and this season has also proven to be the same, with videos of waterlogging doing the rounds on the internet.
Videos show train tracks covered by rainwater with similar conditions on the road. The poor drainage systems have caused a problem for Mumbaikars, making commuting difficult for everybody.
