
Mumbai’s heavy rains caused severe flooding, disrupting transport, evacuating residents, and claiming one life. Authorities issued alerts, diverted traffic, suspended trains, and declared school holidays as the city faced chaos.
Mumbai has been facing the relentless rainfall for days. On Tuesday, the downpour caused flooding across the city, leading to the disruption of road, rail, and air traffic. Around 400 people have been evacuated, who were living in the low-lying areas near the Mithi river as the water level approached the danger mark.
One person was found dead due to electrocution amid heavy rainfall. Police stated, “An overhead wire had fallen into the water and sparks were seen.” The locals witnessed the victim wearing headphones, due to which he was unable to hear them.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Mumbai received 837.3 mm of rainfall between August 15 and 19. On Tuesday alone, the city received 238.2 mm of rain until morning and another 171.2 mm by the evening.
Several areas like Malad's Chincholi, recorded over 300 mm in a single day. IMD has issued an orange alert for Wednesday, with an expected yellow alert on Thursday. It has predicted more heavy showers.
Due to waterlogging, the authorities were forced to close the Posar and Malad subways. The traffic was diverted to several junctions. Hindmata, Dadar, TT, Trombay, and Wadala were severely hit by the rainfall.

On railways, CR suspended services on the Sion-Kurla-Chunabhatti harbour line due to flooding. WR trails are still in operation with delays.
BEST buses witnessed one of the largest diversions in years, with 15 routes diverted.
On Air Travel, 11 flights have been diverted, and 24 others were forced to land before retrying. Passengers suffered delays, especially during the evening.
The civic authorities issued a holiday for schools and colleges in Thane, Navi Mumbai, Panvel, and Palghar on Wednesday. At least 500 people were rescued in Palgahr. Meanwhile, families in Uttan, Mira Bhayandar, and Vasai were safely ferried as water entered their homes.

Some residents were seen swimming in floodwaters outside the Oberoi mall in Goregaon, while others were shifted from landslide-prone areas like Vikhroli and Bhandup to safer regions.
Power Outages have been reported in Kurla, Andheri, Kandivili, and Ghatkopar.
