Mumbai Police announced that the city has been placed on High Alert on Friday after receiving a threat call, suggesting 34 ‘human bombs’ carrying 400 kg of RDX had been planted in the city. The police confirmed that the caller threatened that the explosion will shake up the entire city. The threat call was made through the traffic police helpline.
Police said the threat was allegedly issued by a group called Lashkar-e-Jihadi, just ahead of Anant Chaturdashi, when large crowds gather for Ganesh idol immersions. Security measures have now been tightened across the state. The threat message further claimed that the blasts would kill ‘one crore people’.

The warning comes as Ganesh Chaturthi festivities conclude, with lakhs of devotees participating in visarjan processions across Mumbai.
This is not the first time that the city received such threats. A 43-year-old man was arrested on Monday in Thane for making a fake call regarding a planted bomb in Kalwa Railway station. The accused was identified as Rupesh Madhukar Ranpise. He dialed the police helpline at 4 pm on Sunday, as per the Government Railway Police (GRP).

The ISKCON temple in Gurgaon received a bomb threat email in August. Police, along with the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), searched the premises didn’t find anything suspicious. It was confirmed to be a hoax later. The temple also received a similar email in September.
In July 2025, Mumbai Police got a threat call about a bomb at Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Terminal 2. A detailed inspection was carried out but nothing unusual was found.
