The Mumbai Carnac Road Over Bridge is being dismantled with the aid of four large cranes and about 4,000 labourers.
The Central Railway put a massive 27-hour blockade on the route in order to demolish the 150-year-old bridge. On the suburban line in Mumbai, the 150-year-old bridge is situated halfway between the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Masjid Bunder.
“We are working according to the targeted time. We had started our work around 11 p.m. We are trying our level best to start the main line traffic from 4 p.m. this evening, and we will also try to resume urban line traffic around 8 p.m. in the evening,” said Shivaji Sutra, CPRO, Central Railways.
“The dismantling process of the bridge is going on according to plan and will follow the set timeline, keeping Mega Block in view. Four big cranes, three of 350 tonne capacity each, and one of 500 tonne capacity are deployed, and 400 manual resources are deployed.”
This dismantling is being done on November 19 and November 20.
“Central Railway Mumbai Division will operate special traffic and power blocks on 19.1 and 20.11.2022 involving UP and DN local lines, UP and DN fast lines, and UP and DN harbour lines between CSMT-MASJID Station at KM 0 and 1-2 for the dismantling of the Carnac Road Over Bridge using a road crane,” the Central Railways said in an official statement.
As an aftermath of this blockade, the up-and-down train services from Vadala Road to CSMT will not run along with the up-and-down Slow and Fast lines from Byculla to CSMT.
As a result of this blockade, the up-and-down train services from Vadala Road to CSMT will not operate in tandem with the up-and-down Slow and Fast lines from Byculla to CSMT.
