Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday offered prayers at Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain for good rain in the state.
CM Chouhan worshipped Baba Mahakal (Lord Shiva) in the sanctum sanctorum and also chanted mantras by sitting in Nandihal of the temple. During this, the priest of the temple performed the rituals and it lasted for about two hours.
Mahakal Temple Management Committee member Ram Pujari said that the Maharudra was performed with the wish of good rains in the state and about 66 priests of the temple were reciting Maha Rudra path together.
After worshipping Lord Shiva, CM Chouhan told reporters, “Today, I visited Mahakal Temple and worshipped from the heart to Baba Mahakal. I prayed that due to scanty rains in the state, there has been drought in August and now a drought situation is arising in Madhya Pradesh and the crops are also in danger, may lord shower blessings on us so that it rains well in the state and crops are saved.”
He worshipped Baba Mahakal with the intention that everyone should be happy, healthy and may we all be blessed and there would be good rains in the state, the CM said.
CM Chouhan also appealed to the public that whatever tradition is there in their respective villages and cities, they should pray for good rains in the state while following their traditions.
“I will leave no stone unturned to serve the farmers. Yesterday, I held a meeting to deal with the situation arising out of scanty rainfall, and gave instructions that wherever crops can be saved by releasing water from the dams, it should be released. Secondly, due to lack of rain, an electricity crisis has also arisen as during the monsoon season, so much electricity was not required, tube wells were not run, motors were not run, there used to be water in dams and electricity was also made in abundance,” he said.
At this time 8000-9000 MW power was required but now there is a demand of 15000 MW power. Debt has arisen in demand and supply, so in some places farmers are also getting less electricity. Yesterday, he gave instructions that wherever possible, the entire team is engaged to arrange electricity from wherever it can be found so that the shortage of electricity can be minimised, CM added.
The chief minister further appealed to the people of the state not to use unnecessary electricity, not to run ACs unnecessarily, so that a little contribution can be made in this hour of crisis.
