The Indian government signaled that it is ready to discuss Operation Sindoor the military action taken after the Pahalgam terror attack in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. Officials also hinted that they may address US President Donald Trump’s recent claim of helping broker a ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
Government Says It Won’t Avoid National Issues
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the government is open to debating all important matters. Speaking after an all-party meeting, he said, “We are open to discussing key issues such as Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam attack. These matters concern the nation deeply, and the government won’t shy away from debate.”
Opposition Parties Push for Discussion
Leaders from multiple Opposition parties—such as the Congress, Samajwadi Party, Left, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Shiv Sena (UBT) urged the government to allow a full debate on Operation Sindoor.
Surprisingly, Shrikant Shinde, a Shiv Sena MP from the ruling NDA, also backed this demand, according to two leaders present at the meeting.
Congress Demands PM Modi’s Statement
The Congress Party wants Prime Minister Narendra Modi to speak directly in Parliament. They are asking for his comments on both the terror attack in Pahalgam and President Trump’s remarks.
Gaurav Gogoi, Deputy Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha, said, “We hope the Prime Minister speaks in Parliament. These are serious matters the Pahalgam attack and the security lapse behind it. Comments from the US President raise concerns about India’s honour and the bravery of our armed forces.”
Bihar Voter Roll Also Under Scrutiny
Gogoi also noted that the Opposition will seek explanations regarding the voter list revision currently underway in Bihar. Sources say it is uncertain whether Prime Minister Modi will respond directly to these issues. However, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to make a detailed statement in Parliament on Operation Sindoor during the session.
