Modi Replies To Zelensky’s Independence Day Message, Wishes Peace and Prosperity for Ukraine

PM Modi engaged with other world leaders on his X account, responding to their wishes on India's Independence Day, one of them being the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his X account to respond to the Independence Day wishes from several foreign leaders. Among them was the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who shared a heartfelt message on India’s special day.

PM Modi Responds to Zelensky’s Independence Day Wish

In his response to the Ukrainian President, PM Modi expressed how much he values Zelensky’s efforts to forge deep relations between the two countries. He also wished the people of Ukraine a peaceful and prosperous future.

“Thank you President Zelenskyy for your warm greetings. I deeply value the joint commitment to forging even closer ties between India and Ukraine. We earnestly wish our friends in Ukraine a future marked by peace, progress and prosperity,” Modi wrote in his response to Zelensky.

Modi’s response was to a warm and lengthy message shared by the Ukrainian President. In his Zelensky shared warm wishes to the people of India. 

“Congratulations to the people of India, President @rashtrapatibhvn, and Prime Minister 
@narendramodi on the Independence Day!” Zelensky wrote on X.

He also wrote about the two countries' shared experience of fighting for their freedom and asked for India’s support in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

“Our nations share the experience of standing up for freedom and dignity, as well as the pursuit of peace and development. We hope that India will contribute to efforts aimed at ending the war, so that our freedom and sovereignty are truly secure,” he continued in his post.

India Responded to the Trump-Putin Summit

In a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, India commended the efforts shown by Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin towards ending the war. 

“India welcomes the Summit meeting in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin of Russia. Their leadership in the pursuit of peace is highly commendable,” the statement read.

It also stated that the issue can only be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. Saying that the world is eager to see the Russia-Ukraine war come to a peaceful conclusion.

“India appreciates the progress made in the Summit. The way forward can only be through dialogue and diplomacy. The world wants to see an early end to the conflict in Ukraine,” the statement continued.

Peace Arrangements Between Ukraine and Russia

Following the Trump-Putin summit on Friday, the American President had a lengthy conversation with the Ukrainian President and other European leaders. The telephonic conversation was conducted with a second trilateral meeting between the three nations—the US, Russia and Ukraine. 

In his post made on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Zelensky shared his plans to meet Trump on Monday to discuss the end of the years-long war between Russia and Ukraine.
