Modi applauds Kutch’s resilience post cyclone Biparjoy

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the strength and resolve of the citizens of Kutch, who are recuperating rapidly from the destruction caused by Cyclone Biparjoy. In his recent radio address, “Mann Ki Baat”, Modi commended the Indian disaster management protocols, which have evolved to effectively mitigate such natural calamities.
Cyclone Biparjoy struck the Kutch coast of Gujarat on Thursday, leaving a trail of widespread destruction, but resulted in no loss of life. Modi lauded the unparalleled courage and readiness exhibited by Kutch’s residents in facing the cyclone, despite the extensive damage.
Modi noted the coincidental timing of Kutch’s New Year, Ashadhi Beej, symbolising the onset of rains, just a few days post the cyclone. He expressed his deep-seated faith in the spirit of the people of Kutch, having witnessed their robust resilience following a devastating earthquake two decades ago. Kutch, once deemed irrevocable, is now among India’s fastest-growing districts. Modi voiced confidence in Kutch’s swift recovery from the cyclone’s aftermath.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the lack of control over natural calamities but emphasised India’s advanced disaster management capabilities. He asserted that combating natural disasters effectively requires concerted conservation efforts, particularly water conservation. Modi lauded several initiatives underway in this regard, including the “Catch the Rain” campaign and the inspiring efforts of Tulsiram Yadav of Uttar Pradesh, who has built over 40 ponds to address water scarcity.
