In a tragic development, Sneha Debnath, a 19-year-old student of Delhi University and a native of Tripura, has been found dead in the Yamuna River, six days after she was reported missing. Her body was recovered near a flyover in Geeta Colony, approximately 10 kilometers downstream from her last known location at Signature Bridge in north Delhi.

Sneha Took a Cab to the Signature Bridge Before her Disappearance

On July 7, Sneha took a cab from her residence to the Signature Bridge in North Delhi. The police confirmed this through technical surveillance and statements from the cab driver.

“The cab driver who dropped her at the site has corroborated the statement. Some eyewitnesses said they saw a girl standing on the bridge and later disappearing from the spot,” the police stated.

Her family in Tripura had launched a frantic search after losing contact with her. Authorities traced her digital footprint, confirming that Signature Bridge was her last known location before she vanished.

Suicide Note and Messages Point to Emotional Distress

Investigators found a handwritten note left by Sneha, indicating an intent to die by suicide. Police sources stated she was not troubled by her academic performance but was dealing with personal distress related to her family.

In the early hours of July 7, Sneha sent emails and messages to close friends. Her friends later informed the police that she had been emotionally disturbed for several months.

“Her friends told investigators she had been disturbed and emotionally distressed for the last few months,” the police said.

Body Found After Extensive Search Operation

A search operation was launched by police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), which covered the stretch from Nigam Bodh Ghat to Noida. Her body was discovered near Geeta Colony and has since been sent for autopsy.

Concerns Over Non-Functional CCTV at Signature Bridge

Family members and friends have expressed concerns over surveillance lapses at Signature Bridge. They claim none of the CCTV cameras in the area were functional when Sneha went missing, which they believe hindered the investigation.
