Tenzin Yangki has made history by becoming the first female Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from Arunachal Pradesh. She recently completed her Phase I training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad. Her remarkable journey and achievement have drawn applause from across India.

Tenzin Yangki cleared the 2022 UPSC Civil Services Examination with an All India Rank (AIR) of 545. She hails from Tawang district in Arunachal Pradesh and represented her state at the Passing Out Parade (PoP) held at SVPNPA on October 17, 2025.
Yangki’s achievement has brought immense pride to her home state. She has become a role model for aspiring civil service candidates, especially women from remote areas who dream of serving the nation.
Industrialist Anand Mahindra and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu were among the many who congratulated Yangki.
Mahindra wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "Being first is never easy. It means you walk alone at first, so that others may one day walk beside you. Don’t be afraid of walking alone today… Others will follow."
His words resonated with many, highlighting Yangki’s courage to lead by example and inspire future generations.
Yangki comes from a family with a strong legacy of public service. Her late father, Thupten Tempa, was a respected IAS officer and minister, while her mother, Jigmi Choden, served as Secretary in the Government of Arunachal Pradesh before retirement.
Her family background played a crucial role in shaping her values of dedication, hard work, and public service.
Yangki’s journey to the IPS began years before her UPSC success. In 2017, she cleared the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) examination. Her consistent determination and discipline helped her reach the top ranks of India’s toughest competitive exam.
She underwent rigorous training at SVPNPA, Hyderabad, where she earned praise for her leadership and perseverance.
