MCD polls: 30% voter turnout recorded till 2 pm

The state Election Commission stated on Sunday that as of 2 p.m., about 30% of voters had cast votes in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections, which is considered a low voter turnout.

Up until 12 o’clock, 18% of voters had cast ballots, compared to only 9% up until this morning at 10 o’clock. The polling started at 8 a.m. and is scheduled to last until 5.30 a.m.

The race between the ruling BJP, AAP, and Congress is expected to be fiercely contested.

Elections for civic bodies are currently taking place in the national capital under heavy security.

On December 7, the votes will be tallied.

Data from the State Election Commission shows that there are 1,45,05,358 registered voters in Delhi overall, including 78,93,418 men, 66,10,879 women, and 1 061 transgender people. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has 250 wards.

13,638 voting places have been put up by the Delhi State Election Commission.

According to the State Election Commission, a sizable team of election officials and security organisations made enormous efforts to make the necessary preparations for holding elections at 13,638 polling stations dispersed throughout Delhi. For the benefit of the voters’ quality experience, 68 model polling stations and 68 pink polling stations have also been established. The necessary preparations have been made for the deployment of the forces.

This is the first civic election after the fresh delimitation exercise. There were 272 wards in Delhi and three corporations—NDMC, SDMC, and EDMC—in Delhi from 2012–2022, which later reunified into an MCD that had formally come into existence on May 22.
