MCD launches ‘Awas Portal’ for transparent housing allocation

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) launched the MCD Awas portal on Thursday, June 20, 2024. The Awas portal is designed to streamline the allotment of MCD housing in a clear and transparent manner. This innovative initiative aligns with MCD’s commitment to embracing digitalization and enhancing the efficiency of its services. The portal was developed by the IT department of MCD and was officially inaugurated by the MCD Commissioner, Ashwini Kumar. This new platform represents a significant milestone in MCD’s ongoing efforts to adopt digital technologies and provide superior estate services to its employees.
MCD Commissioner Ashwini Kumar said, “The MCD Awas Portal is a testament to our dedication to leveraging digital technologies to enhance our services. This portal will not only simplify the housing allotment process for our employees but also ensure that it is conducted in a fair and transparent manner.” He added that the launch of the MCD Awas Portal marks a significant shift from the cumbersome manual system to a streamlined digital process. Previously, the booking and allotment of residential accommodations were managed by different departments, making the process complex and time-consuming. The new portal simplifies these procedures, making them more transparent and uniform for all employees.
MCD officials said that “the portal will simplify the application process.” Employees can now apply for residential accommodation online, choosing up to ten options based on their preferences. This user-friendly interface replaces the previously manual and tedious process. He added that this portal will serve as a centralised system for booking and allotting residential MCD accommodations and managing various estate services for eligible officials. He further said the portal will also enhance transparency and accountability through digitalizing the allotment process. Portal will also ensure that all transactions are conducted in a transparent and accountable manner, thus building trust among employees.
