The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has established a new management committee for the long-standing Hardayal Library. Mayor Shelly Oberoi, who serves as the library’s ex-officio chairperson, has put together a six-member committee for the Hardayal Public Library.
The new committee will replace Hardayal Library’s governing body. The main objective of the committee is to resolve the ongoing financial crisis at the library. Mayor Shelly Oberoi said, “Employees of Hardayal Library will get their salaries before Diwali. The first aim of the committee is to give the salaries of the employees before Diwali.»According to the MCD, employees will be paid salaries until 2021 before Diwali, and the rest will also be released as soon as possible.
The mayor has nominated Councillor Preeti from Ward 217 of Dilshad colony for the post of secretary and Councillor Usha Sharma from Sadar Bazaar Ward 72 for the post of joint secretary. Apart from this councillor, Punardeep Singh Sahani from Chandani Chowk Ward 74, Kiran Bala from Delhi Gate Ward 77, Mohammad Sadiq from Ballimaran Ward 79, and Congress Councillor Shagufta Chaudhary from Chauhan Banger Ward 227 were appointed as members of the new committee.
An officer of the MCD said, «All the members unanimously approved the proposal to make Preeti the secretary and Usha Sharma the joint secretary of the committee.» He further said the new committee will investigate all the scams in Hardayal Library. The funds of Hardayal Library have been misused on a large scale. Apart from this, the funds given for the salaries of the employees were also misused.
