Delhi Police have launched a probe into allegations made by an 18-year-old medical student who claimed she was raped and blackmailed by an acquaintance and his friends in northwest Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar area.
The police said the incident allegedly took place last month and came to light after the student approached authorities with her family’s support. The case has been registered, and the suspects are currently on the run.
According to officials, the student, who is pursuing MBBS and stays in a hostel, told police that she knew the main accused from her hometown in Haryana’s Jind. He allegedly invited her to a hotel in Adarsh Nagar under the pretext of a small party.
In her complaint, she said the man was accompanied by two friends. The group allegedly spiked her drink and took advantage of her condition. The accused later used video footage to threaten her and allegedly forced her to meet him several times afterward.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Bhisham Singh confirmed that a case has been filed under Section 64(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with punishment for rape. “We have identified all the suspects, and multiple teams are conducting searches to trace them,” he said.
A senior officer said the complaint was filed on October 2, and the survivor’s statement has been recorded. Forensic evidence has been collected from the location mentioned in the complaint, and CCTV footage from nearby hotels is being examined.
The police have also sent the survivor for medical examination and ensured that she receives psychological support and counseling as per legal guidelines.
Authorities said the survivor’s statement has been recorded before a magistrate, and further investigation is underway. Police officials stressed that Delhi Police maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward crimes against women and will ensure swift justice.
They also appealed to residents to report suspicious activities and assured them that all such complaints would be treated with full confidentiality and seriousness.
