A massive fire broke out early Saturday morning in the cellphone manufacturing section of Tata Electronics’ facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, prompting a swift evacuation of employees. The blaze, which began around 5:30 am in the mobile phone accessories painting unit located in Uddanapalli near Nagamangalam, caused significant property damage, according to initial reports.
As thick smoke engulfed the area, panic spread among the approximately 1,500 workers present for the first shift. Multiple fire engines were dispatched to the scene, successfully evacuating employees without any reported injuries.
A spokesperson for Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL) confirmed the incident, stating that all emergency protocols were followed to ensure the safety of employees. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and the company has pledged to take all necessary steps to safeguard its staff and stakeholders.
Three employees who experienced respiratory difficulties were taken to a private hospital and are reported to be in stable condition. Over 100 police officers were deployed to manage the situation and assist in the evacuation process.
Fire brigades are still working to control the blaze, and an assessment of the damage is ongoing. The incident has raised concerns about safety protocols in manufacturing units, especially in high-risk areas like electronics production.
