Maoist IED Attack In Chhattisgarh: 2 Police Constables Killed, 4 Hurt

Two police constables lost their lives and four others were wounded in an IED explosion detonated by suspected Maoists in Tarrem, Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh an area plagued by left-wing insurgency. This incident occurred amidst ongoing anti-Maoist operations that have resulted in the deaths of at least 139 insurgents this year.

The Chhattisgarh Police identified the deceased constables as Bharat Sahu and Satyer Singh Kange. According to the police statement, the security forces were returning from a search operation on Wednesday when the IED detonated. The team had been dispatched following intelligence reports indicating the presence of Maoists from the Darbha Division, West Bastar Division, and Military Company Number 2 in the area between Bijapur, Dantewada, and Sukma.

The joint search operation included the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), a specialized unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trained in guerrilla tactics and jungle warfare. “Additional security forces have been deployed to the area, and necessary arrangements have been made to ensure proper treatment for the injured STF [Special Task Force] personnel,” the statement noted.

This deadly attack occurred on the same day Maharashtra Police killed 12 Maoists near Jarabandi, close to Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district.

On July 9, security forces killed a female Maoist in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district, bringing the total number of Maoists killed in the state this year to 139. Of these, 137 were killed in the Bastar division, which spans seven districts, including Kanker.
