Many Predicted Our End Says Sonia Gandhi After Commencing New MP’s

Addressing the Congress parliamentary party, re-elected leader Sonia Gandhi highlighted the party’s resilience and success in the face of adversity, offering congratulations to the newly-elected MPs.

Gandhi remarked, referencing the scepticism surrounding the Congress party’s chances before the election. However, the party’s performance proved otherwise, demonstrating its enduring strength.

Parliamentary Party Meeting Highlights

During the parliamentary party meeting, Gandhi acknowledged the significant responsibility entrusted to her and praised the MPs for their hard-fought victories under challenging circumstances. “I am deeply conscious of the great responsibility all of you have placed on me yet again,” she said. “Let me first of all greet and congratulate all the newly elected Lok Sabha MPs. You have fought a tough election under the most challenging of circumstances.”

The Congress’s improved tally of 99 seats, a notable increase from its previous 52, will enhance its influence in Parliament. “Your success has given us a much greater presence in the Lok Sabha and a more effective voice in its proceedings,” Gandhi stated.

Overcoming Adversity

Gandhi described the party’s battle against a formidable opposition that aimed to undermine it through financial and defamatory campaigns. “We were up against a mighty and malevolent machine,” she said. “It tried to cripple us financially. It carried out a campaign against us and our leaders that was full of lies and defamation.”

Despite these challenges, the party persevered under the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge. Gandhi praised Kharge’s dedication to the party and its ideals, calling him an inspiration.

Role of Bharat Jodo Yatras

Gandhi emphasized the significance of the Bharat Jodo Yatra and the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, led by Rahul Gandhi, in revitalizing the party. “Rahul deserves special thanks for his tenacity and determination to fight on in the face of unprecedented personal and political attacks,” she said.

She noted that their focus on the Constitution influenced the Prime Minister’s recent actions. “The constant upholding of the importance of our Constitution during our campaigns by Rahul and Kharge ji, and all of you is what compelled the Prime Minister yesterday to bow down to that which for us is a precious book, the Constitution of India,” she added.

Collective Effort and Future Challenges

Thanking Congress workers for their dedication, Gandhi highlighted the collective nature of the campaign. She also commended those who did not win but fought valiantly, bringing pride to the party.

Looking ahead, Gandhi acknowledged the challenges the party faces, emphasizing the need to prevent polarization and uphold secular and democratic values. “We have to be alert to prevent any attempts to increase polarization and erosion of secular and democratic values,” she said.

Electoral Mandate

Gandhi concluded by interpreting the election results as a rejection of divisiveness and authoritarianism. “The people have voted decisively to reject the politics of divisiveness and authoritarianism. They have voted to strengthen parliamentary politics and safeguard our Constitution. They have voted for the agenda of economic and social justice that indeed should continue to be our objective and guide,” she said.
