Public anger continues to swell in Haryana after the brutal murder of Manisha, a 19-year-old playschool teacher from Singhani village in Bhiwani while her body, discovered on August 13 with her throat slit, has shaken the entire state. Protests have intensified, with markets shut, roads blocked, and repeated mahapanchayats demanding immediate arrest of the culprits. While Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini suspended five policemen and transferred the Bhiwani SP, opposition leaders call these steps inadequate. The case has now taken a shocking turn with a third postmortem, while the National Human Rights Commission has sought a response from the Haryana DGP.

How the Case Unfolded

Manisha left her school on August 11 to visit a nearby nursing college but never returned home and her father lodged a missing complaint the same evening. Instead of registering a case, the Loharu police dismissed his plea, claiming she must have “run away.” The family criticised the negligence, pointing out that timely action could have saved her life. On August 13, a farmer found her body in a field near a canal. Police identified her and conducted the first autopsy, but her family refused to accept the body, demanding arrests first.

Anger on the Streets

The crime sparked protests across Bhiwan and on Saturday, villagers held a mahapanchayat near Dhigawa Mandi, demanding justice. On Sunday, they blocked the Delhi-Pilani Road and people accused the police of dragging their feet and failing to act promptly. A friend of Manisha described her as calm and well-mannered. Another woman alleged her life might have been saved if the police had acted quickly.

Political Storm in Haryana

The killing has triggered sharp political reactions. Congress general secretary Kumari Selja called it a collapse of law and order. She dismissed the suspension of police officers as eyewash and asked whether Haryana’s daughters are safe under the BJP government. INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala called the case a black spot on the state, while AAP leader Anurag Dhanda alleged that criminals operate freely under the current regime. He cited data showing more than 4,100 missing persons in six months, with kidnapping cases crossing 1,000.

A Shocking Third Postmortem

Amid rising protests, Manisha’s case saw another twist. A third postmortem was conducted at PGIMS Rohtak to ascertain fresh details. The forensic report now holds key evidence that could change the direction of the investigation while families and protesters insist that arrests must come before any final rites, keeping tensions high in Singhani.
