Manipur: Deportation order after 29 Individuals Detected with Invalid ILPs

The Manipur police has deported 29 individuals who were detected with invalid documents on Monday, December 2.

On 30th November 2024, a team from Mayang Imphal PS conducted an ILP (Inner Line Permit) checking drive in the Mayang Imphal Bengoon area.
During the drive, 29 individuals working in a bakery were found to be holding Labour category ILPs. Upon verification through the Deputy Commissioner, Imphal West, it was discovered that these ILPs were not in compliance with the Manipur ILP guidelines, 2019.

Speaking to media, Manipur CM N Biren Singh stated, “Today police department got information that some people from outside came and police apprehend around 29 people who as per Aadhar card belongs to Assam but their presence were in violation of ILP of Manipur.”

Since these individuals did not meet the proper criteria, their Labour Category ILPs were cancelled, and the 29 individuals were deported to their respective home states. In response, the Home Department has instructed the concerned District Administration and the Deputy Labour Commissioner to conduct a detailed inquiry into the lapses and take stern action against the involved government officials.

Additionally, the State Government has set up a committee at the State Level to review the overall implementation of the ILP in the state. The committee will be chaired by the Commissioner (Home), Government of Manipur, with representatives from UIDAI, Chief Electoral Officer, Land Resource Department, DCs, and SSPs of districts. The committee has been directed to submit its report within 15 days.

Further, the Manipur CM has stated that only those labour will be only allowed who are under agency but the people deported are not those agencies as allowed by ILP.

Meanwhile,sSearch operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.

A total of 107 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and no one was detained by Police in connection with violations in different districts of the State.
