A shocking incident aboard an IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Kolkata has taken a disturbing turn. A male passenger who allegedly slapped a co-passenger without provocation has been banned from flying with IndiGo. The airline confirmed the action a day after a video of the assault went viral, triggering a social media storm.
The victim, identified as Hossain Ahmed Mazumdar from Assam’s Cachar district, was reportedly suffering a panic attack while onboard. A widely circulated video shows Mazumdar appearing distressed as flight attendants escort him to his seat. A fellow traveler suddenly came forward and slapped him in front of the entire cabin.
Incredulous, the passengers watched as the staff attempted to diffuse the incident. According to reports, the two men had never talked before.
IndiGo responded to the incident with a strong statement:
“In line with our commitment to discourage such unruly behavior onboard flights, the individual has been suspended from flying on any IndiGo flights, in accordance with regulatory provisions.”
The airline reaffirmed its commitment to passenger and crew safety, emphasizing the importance of a respectful onboard environment.

While IndiGo took action against the assaulter, concern has shifted to the safety of Mazumdar himself, who has now been reported missing. He was scheduled to take a connecting flight from Kolkata to Silchar but never arrived. His family, waiting at Silchar airport, said they were alarmed when Mazumdar didn’t disembark.
“When we didn’t find him, we contacted authorities and even went to the Udharband police station,” said a relative.
They’ve now urged the authorities to release airport CCTV footage to trace his movements after deplaning in Kolkata.
The event has reignited conversations about how to handle anxious customers, mental health awareness during flights, and the lack of post-flight follow-up for vulnerable travelers. The mystery surrounding Mazumdar's disappearance is still unexplained, and police investigations are currently active.
