Man Shoots Girlfriend, Dies By Suicide At Kolkata Guest House

In a tragic incident at a guest house in South Kolkata on Wednesday, a young man shot his girlfriend and then took his own life with a pistol, according to a senior police official. The police recovered a 9mm pistol from the scene.

Both individuals, residents of South 24 Parganas district, had checked into the guest house in the afternoon. The shooting occurred around 5 pm when the man fired at the woman inside their room on the third floor of the guest house.

The woman sustained a gunshot wound to her abdomen and managed to inform the guest house reception about the incident. Simultaneously, another gunshot was heard from inside, and it was discovered that the man had fatally shot himself in the head, as stated by the police.

The injured woman has been hospitalized at a nearby private facility where she is receiving treatment. The man, however, was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

“Preliminary investigation suggests they may have been in a relationship that was deteriorating. The investigation is ongoing to ascertain the motive,” the police added.
