Swati Maliwal, the former Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women and AAP Rajya Sabha candidate, expressed disappointment on Friday over the exclusion of the tableaux of Punjab and Delhi from the Republic Day parade.
In a post on X, Maliwal underscored the significant themes these tableaux could have portrayed, stating, “It is sad that there are no tableaux of Punjab and Delhi in the Republic Day parade.”
She elaborated on the symbolic messages conveyed by these tableaux, mentioning, “While the tableau of Delhi gives the message of the importance of education, the tableau of Punjab, the land of brave martyrs, pays respect to the immortal revolutionaries.”
Expressing hope for future inclusion, Maliwal stated, “Hopefully next time the tableaux of both the states will be seen on Republic Day.” A total of 25 tableaux were featured in the Republic Day parade, with 16 representing various States and Union territories and 9 from central government departments.
According to a Ministry of Defence statement, the exclusion of Punjab and West Bengal’s tableaux was attributed to a misalignment with the “broader themes” of this year’s tableau.
