Majitha constituency witnessed participation in scores as senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikramjit Majithia addressed a massive rally in his constituency after eight months, signalling early political mobilisation ahead of the next electoral battle while launching a sharp attack on the Punjab government.
Addressing the gathering, Majithia said fear does not run in the veins of Majitha and lions run in its blood, asserting that he belongs to the people and not to the government. Alleging political vendetta, he said the government had even expressed intent to put a tracker on him during his release from jail as Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann fears his political rise.
Declaring “Nabha wale aa gaye Majitha,” Majithia said Bhagwant Mann should now prepare for Nabha, adding that the political contest has entered a decisive phase. He thanked supporters, saying slogans of Majitha are echoing across Punjab due to public backing.
Raising serious security concerns, Majithia said he continues to openly meet people despite threats to his life and that he can be killed anytime but will not stop interacting with the public. He alleged that singers and celebrities who share stage space or are even photographed with opposition leaders face withdrawal of security, leaving them vulnerable to gangsters.
Targeting governance in the state, Majithia alleged that Punjab has turned into a police state, claiming that murders and bomb blasts are being reported every third day. He said vendetta politics has reached such a level that during the Akali tenure constables received promotions, whereas under the present regime transfers are being used as tools of pressure. He added that such politics indicates that the ruling party’s declining phase has begun.
Majithia further alleged that the media environment has been compromised and those raising their voice against the government are threatened with FIRs or face crackdowns on their channels. He also claimed that false cases were registered against him for questioning the government, asserting that FIRs would not silence him but instead strengthen his resolve to raise more questions.
Referring to alleged action against his family, Majithia said attempts were made to lodge an FIR against his wife Ganieve Majithia, adding that Punjab has never supported targeting daughters and sisters through police cases and that such actions cross cultural and social boundaries of the state.
He said earlier he was fighting alone but now Sukhjinder Raj Singh Lalli Majithia stands firmly with him and is even more aggressive in carrying forward the political struggle.
Majithia maintained that the situation in Punjab would correct once a permanent DGP replaces the present adhoc arrangement, stating that accountability in policing would then be restored.
Warning those allegedly pressuring residents of Majitha, he asked them to remember 2027, asserting that the present political attitude would vanish with time. He said no amount of FIRs or jail threats would stop the people of Majitha, adding that registers of cases would be torn away and jail bars would melt before public resistance weakens.
Taking a dig at the atta dal scheme, Majithia said the government remembered people only after four years and sarcastically remarked that people understand what Bhagwant Mann’s kit would actually contain.
He said the overwhelming turnout at the rally reflects growing public assertion and signals the beginning of pre election political momentum in Punjab.
