Major General Ajai Singh Dabas has assumed command of the Counter Insurgency Force (Delta) in Jammu and Kashmir, replacing Major General A P S Bal, the Army said on Sunday. Delta Force, raised on September 5, 1994, is headquartered in the Batote area of Ramban district and has played a pivotal role in curbing terrorism in the Chenab Valley districts of Ramban, Kishtwar and Doda.

After taking over as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Delta Force, Maj Gen Dabas paid homage to the fallen soldiers by laying a wreath at the War Memorial. He extended his best wishes to all ranks, the Jammu-based White Knight Corps said in a post on X.

The new GOC exhorted personnel to uphold the highest standards of operational excellence, maintain unwavering vigilance and continue fostering peace and stability in the region.

Maj Gen A P S Bal had taken over the command of Delta Force in November 2024. During his tenure, the formation achieved significant operational successes, including a February 22 encounter in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar in which three Pakistani terrorists, including their commander Saifullah of the proscribed outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad, were killed.

In the past one year, a total of seven Pakistani terrorists were neutralised in the upper reaches of Kishtwar during sustained counter-insurgency operations, officials said.
