Mahua Moitra Demands Rs. 1,220 Refund from Swiggy for Spoiled Ice Creams

On January 16, Mahua Moitra, MP Trinamool Congress, took to social media to place a litany of complaints regarding the delivery issues of Swiggy after getting spoiled ice creams. The 50-year-old leader revealed that she had ordered 10 Minus Thirty mini sticks for Rs. 1,220, which arrived inedible. She demanded a refund or replacement for the “expensive” order.

At 10:15 PM, Moitra tweeted, “Sorry Swiggy – you’ve got to up your game. Unacceptable that I ordered expensive Minus Thirty mini sticks ice cream & it arrives spoilt and inedible. Anticipating a refund or replacement as soon as possible.

Swiggy’s Customer Service Team responded immediately and requested her order details, which she mailed to them.

Social Media Response

Her tweet made the social media users laugh, and most of them mentioned her past controversies, like an expensive handbag she carried in 2023. Moitra joined the humor, joking that her ice creams were “Hermes flavour with Bobbi Brown topping.”

On a more serious note, she addressed the trolling. “Just because I am an MP doesn’t mean I am not a normal person who orders food online. Please get over this mindset that public reps are not normal beings. And then you complain people are behaving like ‘netas’,” she replied to a critic.

The incident started a larger conversation on delivery platforms and customer experience with several users commenting on the struggles they faced getting refunds.

A user noted, “Happened to me twice with Minus Thirty orders. It’s frustrating, but I get that frozen deliveries have their issues.” Another commented, “Never order something which melts in a few minutes. Exceptional cases when the dark store is just beside you and have no traffic issues.

Although Moitra’s complaint complained about frozen food delivery, it also shed light on the concerns customers face at large with these e-commerce platforms.
