Maharashtra’s Village Renames Itself to Honor Actor Irrfan Khan

A village in Maharashtra’s Nashik district has renamed itself as ‘Hero Chi Wadi’ to pay tribute to the late Bollywood icon Irrfan Khan. The village in Igatpuri was previously known as ‘Patryacha Wada’. The name change was made in celebration of Irrfan Khan.

Irrfan shared a long-standing bond with the community, owning a farmhouse near ‘Trilangwadi Fort’ for almost 14-15 years. His actions are printed in villagers’ hearts as he provided them with an ambulance, books, computers, and basic facilities.

Tribute to Irrfan Khan

Villagers respected the Khan’s humility and altruism. Khan’s contribution was not only to give them material support but also to treat them with love and respect. Khan was kind to the locals; he chatted with them, provided them with food, and played songs for the children.

A viral post by “The Culture Gully” channel on Instagram shared Khan’s contributions and his humanitarian side. This kindheartedness deeply resonated with the people, prompting the community to name the township after him- ‘Hero Chi Wadi. ‘

Gorakh Bodke’s Remarks

A member of the Zilla Parishad, Gorakh Bodke, said, “He was always with us.” The longest distance the villagers traveled for a movie was 30 kilometers in honor of his great care and affection for them. A talented actor who is known for powerful performances in Paan Singh Tomar, The Lunchbox, and Angrezi Medium, died after a prolonged illness of a neuroendocrine tumor in April 2020.

His death left behind his wife, Sutapa, and sons, Babil and Ayan. He shall be remembered not only through his films but also for his special place in the hearts of the villagers who got the privilege to meet him.
