The Government of Maharashtra has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) worth over Rs 1 lakh crore (USD 12.3 billion) with global investors in Davos, which have the potential for 26,000 jobs to be created across Maharashtra. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde who is leading a delegation to the annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, is aiming to position the state as the primary investment destination in South Asia and with Maharashtra taking a leap in futuristic infrastructure and urbanization, the CM is aiming to engage with global leaders for dialogue on creation of innovative urban spaces enabled with digitisation.
The Maharashtra Chief Minister further said that the good relations between Maharashtra and the Central Government and the double-engine government are working.
“Everyone knows that the state government of Maharashtra and the central government have good relations. Double engine government is working. Maharashtra is also the biggest contributor to the Gross domestic product (GDP),” he said.
During WEF 2023, Maharashtra secured Rs 1.4 lakh crore investment commitment, signing key MOUs with global giants like Berkshire Hathaway and Greenko Energy Projects. These agreements are poised to generate over 1 lakh jobs in vital sectors across Maharashtra. The first day of Shinde’s visit to WEF 2024, saw MoUs with global and Indian companies, including BC Jindal for a display Fab unit, AB InBev, JSW Steel, Godrej Agrovet and Inox Air Products pertaining to ESDM, F&B, renewables, IT/ITES and agriculture and bringing in investments of Rs 1 lakh crore.
