In a significant push towards renewable energy, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the state’s plan for solarisation of approximately 20,000 MW. This announcement was made during the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony for an integrated solar plant by Avaada Group in Nagpur on Monday. The state-of-the-art project is set to start production by April 2025.
Speaking at the event, Fadnavis highlighted the plant’s advanced technology, stating, “The complete integration of solar units is being done here. The efficiency of the products developed will surpass the ones currently in use. This project will significantly contribute to our solarisation efforts.” The facility will manufacture critical components like modules, ingots, chips, and glass, essential for solar power production.
In addition to the solar plant, Avaada Group had earlier signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government to develop two major Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs) with a combined capacity of 2,750 MW. The projects include the 1,500 MW Pawana Falyan PSP in the Pune and Raigad districts and the 1,250 MW Kumbhavade PSP in the Kolhapur and Ratnagiri districts. The projects, with an estimated investment of INR 14,000 crore over 5-7 years, are expected to boost the state’s energy security and environmental sustainability.
Fadnavis reiterated the government’s commitment to increasing investments in renewable energy, with a focus on the Maharashtra State Agri-Krushi Yantrikikaran Yojana (MSKY), which aims to support energy needs in the agricultural sector. These initiatives are part of Maharashtra’s broader strategy to promote sustainable and eco-friendly power solutions.
