Maharashtra: Congress Leader Nana Patole Sparks Controversy with ‘Dog’ Remark

Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole stirred controversy during a campaign speech in Akola, where he criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly disrespecting the OBC community. Addressing supporters on Monday, Patole said, “Will the OBC people of Akola district vote for a party that calls you dogs? It’s time to humble the BJP, who have become so arrogant.”

Campaigning for the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, of which Congress is a part, Patole’s comments reflect the intense rivalry between the MVA and BJP-led Mahayuti coalition. The remark comes amid heightened political tensions as Maharashtra approaches its assembly elections on November 20, with vote counting set for November 23.

This is not the first time inflammatory remarks have surfaced. Earlier, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant referred to BJP-turned-Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC as “imported maal,” a term he later apologized for following backlash. In Jharkhand, Congress leader Irfan Ansari drew ire after calling BJP’s Jamtara candidate, Sita Soren, a “rejected” and “borrowed” player, prompting her emotional response and a strong reaction from the tribal community.

Meanwhile, Patole highlighted the MVA’s election promises, focusing on farmer welfare, youth opportunities, and poverty alleviation. He reiterated the coalition’s pledge for a capable and corruption-free Maharashtra with improved law and order. The upcoming election is expected to be a closely contested race between the MVA and Mahayuti alliances.
